  • Eat Healthy under strain

Posted on January 27th, 2010 Contributing Author No comments

One of the times I find it hardest to adhere to a healthy eating program is when i’m having a bad day or am just completely wired. Unfortunately, my first thought is to have some actually good comfort food. I think of really rich things to eat that are rotten for my fat loss system and worse for my over all well being. When the body is stressed out, it essentially wants healthy food more at that point than any other. Filling it with all the junk I covet when I am having a bad day is worse because I’m not giving myself what I require to properly deal with the strain.

These are some ways I try avoiding stress eating. I try and carry good healthy snacks with me all of the time. These are usually stuff like trail mix or granola bars having a small fat in them that might satisfy that urge to eat a big chocolate bar when i’m getting stressed out. They’re actually better for my body than the great chocolate bar and will give me the nutrients I have to handle my hectic way of life. Peanut butter is a great thing to have on hand whenever you can. I keep some in my briefcase ( weird, I know, but it works for me ) and I’ll have a spoonful if i’m ever going to be late for a meal or if I just need a good gratifying break. It’s surprising that it can essentially curb hunger pains and also satisfies those urges I am getting when I am stressed out.

I try and plan all my meals ahead. This helps me to adhere to what I’ve already decided when the going gets tough. Sure, sometimes I’ve tossed my lunch and went out for a cheeseburger, but it doesn’t occur that regularly if I’ve already got a good plan. I try and add in flavorful things to all my meals. If i’m certain to get enough healthy fats, it helps me to stop craving them when the levels of stress increase.

I also like to keep stuff like jell-o around. It really have any calories, but satisfies my sweet tooth if i’m getting a craving. Adding some whipping cream is also ok, since the whipping cream is still pretty lowcal.

These are all things that help me avoid stress eating. You will need to try them and determine what works best for you. Keeping good choices around will help you to achieve success with your weight loss goals and feel happier about yourself. They’ll also help you manage your stress better and keep you going when you most need to.
