Traditionally a juice that the Chinese and the natives of Tibet used for promoting general wellness, Himalayan goji juice is becoming more popular in the west due to very recent commercialization efforts. However, as the name implies, the best berries that are purported to make the best Himalayan goji juice, are grown in some areas close to the Himalayan mountains and Tibet, particularly in China and Inner Mongolia.

  • Relax With Hawthorn Berry Extract

Hawthorn (Crataegus) is a large genus of shrubs and trees in the rose family, Rosaceae, native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere in Europe, Asia and North America. The name hawthorn was originally applied to the species native to northern Europe, especially the Common Hawthorn C. monogyna, and the unmodified name is often so used in Britain and Ireland. However the name is now also applied to the entire genus, and also to the related Asian genus Rhaphiolepis.

They look like shrubs and small trees growing to 5-15 m tall, characterized by their small pome fruit and thorny branches. The bark is smooth grey in young individuals, developing shallow longitudinal fissures with narrow ridges in older trees. The fruits are sometimes known as “haws”, from which the name derived. The thorns grow from branches, and are typically 1-3 cm long. The leaves grow spirally arranged on long shoots, and in clusters on spur shoots on the branches or twigs. The leaves themselves have lobed or serrate margins and are somewhat variable shape.

The eatable parts of hawthorn (Cratageus species) are the leaf, fruit, and flower. The constituents responsible for the pharmacological effects of hawthorn are flavonoids and procyanidins. However, Hawthorn berry extract also contains cardiac glycoside vitexin, and the flavonols rutin and hyperoside. Hawthorn has been used for cardiovascular conditions. Hawthorn is used for sedative, astringent, antispasmodic and diuretic effects. Traditionally, Hawthorn has also been used for gastrointestinal conditions. Hawthorn can be found Europe, western Asia, and North Africa.

Hawthorn berry is an ancient herbal remedy for heart problems and has been historically used in European, Native American, and ancient Greek medicine for this purpose. One of Europe’s oldest natural herbal medicines, hawthorn is used today in Europe to treat patients suffering from congestive heart failure (CHF).

Studies show that hawthorn increases blood flow in the body by enlarging coronary arteries, as well as arteries in the arms and legs. Hawthorn also lowers blood pressure and helped with symptoms of CHF, such as shortness of breath and fatigue. Hawthorn is high in antioxidants as well, which helps keep plaque from forming on artery walls, a condition that can lead to atherosclerosis. Hawthorn may even help alleviate symptoms for angina.

Hawthorn berry is available in whole berry or standardized forms and comes in capsule, tablet, and bulk powder forms as well. Look for name brands like Solaray, Source Naturals, And Natures Plus for a quality herbal supplement like hawthorn berry. This wonderful herb is available at your local or internet health food store.
